Show directionsWhat does the coat of arms of the Regional Territorial Command North Rhine-Westphalia represent?
The integration of the Regional Territorial Command within the federal state is accurately reflected in the heraldic design of the unit crest. On the one hand, it features the coat of arms of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, with the Rhine, the steed and the rose. They represent the three regions of the Rhineland, Westphalia and Lippe.
Shown on the left is a wavy band on a green background, which symbolises the Rhine. The Rhine was already part of the coat of arms of the Prussian Rhine Province. The standing horse on a red background is the Westphalian steed, which was the emblem of the Duchy of Westphalia. Shown at the bottom is the five-petalled red rose of Lippe. It was turned to a red petal especially for the coat of arms of North Rhine-Westphalia. Unlike the original rose of Lippe, it stands on a green leaf.
The ties between the Bundeswehr and the federal state are emphasised by the background, which consists of the federal flag in the colours black, red and gold, and the Iron Cross as the identifier of the Bundeswehr.
