Symbolising the Schleswig region, the left half shows two lions with red claws, both facing inward and one above the other, on a yellow background. The right half shows the nettle leaf on a red background, symbolising the region of Holstein. Located at the base of the shield and depicted in silver with blue borders is the Iron Cross of the Bundeswehr.
