German Armed Forces Command United States and Canada

The area of responsibility of the German Armed Forces Command United States and Canada (GEFORCOM USA/CAN) encompasses the entire continent of North America and its six time zones. GEFORCOM USA/CAN is a very multifaceted, geographically widely dispersed and interesting Command.

German soldiers and their families are deployed at more than 49 locations in a total of 22 U.S. states and two Canadian provinces. Some operate Bundeswehr training facilities located in the U.S. or receive training at those facilities. Others attend training courses of the U.S. or Canadian armed forces, whether as students or as instructors. In addition, some German servicemembers fulfill liaison duties and yet others serve as exchange personnel with U.S. units and battalions, as well as on naval vessels. Likewise, German military personnel serving with German detachments at NATO or other international headquarters in the U.S. are affiliated with the German Armed Forces Command in Reston, Virginia.

The primary function of GEFORCOM USA/CAN is to exercise joint administrative control, maintain personnel and materiel readiness, and provide logistics supply and communications connectivity to its subordinate German servicemembers. A further major task is to establish and maintain good relations between the Bundeswehr and American and Canadian units and agencies at the sub-departmental level of Defense. The German Armed Forces Command United States and Canada represents the Bundeswehr and projects its presence through extensive public affairs work.
