The Multinationales Kommando Operative Führung (MN KdoOpFü)/Multinational Joint Headquarters Ulm (MN JHQ Ulm) stands ready to accomplish missions assigned by NATO, and primarily, the EU, making an essential contribution to the European security architecture.
Positioned at the interface between the EU and NATO, the Ulm Command uses its planning capacities, capabilities and expertise to provide a well-established military-strategic headquarters for exercises and operations within the scope of the Common Security and Defence Policy. Its contribution strengthens Europe’s capacity to act and respond to crisis scenarios, making the headquarters a key element of the “Strategic Compass” approved by the European Council in March of 2022.
In addition, it renders support to NATO, especially the Allied Reaction Force and the Joint Support and Enabling Command, which is also based at the Wilhelmsburg Barracks in Ulm.
The Ulm Command has acquired a unique wealth of expertise in exercising command and control of joint and combined EU and NATO operations and exercises. Its certification as a NATO Joint Task Force Headquarters in 2018 marked an important milestone.
With servicemembers originating from currently eight different nations, the MN KdoOpFü/MN JHQ Ulm has succeeded in integrating the Bundeswehr into both EU and NATO structures, making the Ulm Command a unique asset in the German armed forces.
