The Multinationales Kommando Operative Führung (MN KdoOpFü)/Multinational Joint Headquarters Ulm (MN JHQMultinational Joint Headquarters Ulm) stands ready to accomplish missions assigned by NATONorth Atlantic Treaty Organization, and primarily, the EUEuropean Union, making an essential contribution to the European security architecture.
Positioned at the interface between the EUEuropean Union and NATONorth Atlantic Treaty Organization, the Ulm Command uses its planning capacities, capabilities and expertise to provide a well-established military-strategic headquarters for exercises and operations within the scope of the Common Security and Defence Policy. Its contribution strengthens Europe’s capacity to act and respond to crisis scenarios, making the headquarters a key element of the “Strategic Compass” approved by the European Council in March of 2022.
In addition, it renders support to NATONorth Atlantic Treaty Organization, especially the Allied Reaction Force and the Joint Support and Enabling Command, which is also based at the Wilhelmsburg Barracks in Ulm.
The Ulm Command has acquired a unique wealth of expertise in exercising command and control of joint and combined EUEuropean Union and NATONorth Atlantic Treaty Organization operations and exercises. Its certification as a NATONorth Atlantic Treaty Organization Joint Task Force Headquarters in 2018 marked an important milestone.
With servicemembers originating from currently eight different nations, the MN KdoOpFü/MN JHQMultinational Joint Headquarters Ulm has succeeded in integrating the Bundeswehr into both EUEuropean Union and NATONorth Atlantic Treaty Organization structures, making the Ulm Command a unique asset in the German armed forces.
