The name of the simulation exercise, "CAMO" (Casualty Move), translates to "wounded transport" and already describes the core theme. The wargaming, which will take place in April, will focus on a conflict scenario in the context of national and alliance defense. The focus will be on the complete evacuation of wounded and injured from the front line to the respective home country. "This exercise is about NATO's ability to evacuate its wounded and injured in an Article 5 scenario," Colonel Jürgen Muntenaar, MMCCMultinational Medical Coordination Centre/EMCEuropean Medical Command deputy director for NATO affairs.

The aim was to confirm the exercise structure and the resources deployed. In particular, the individual exercise sections planned so far were perfected in this context. The structure of the exercise was designed in several steps and in cooperation with the participating nations and organizations in working groups to meet their individual needs.

"More than 200 participants from more than 20 nations and organizations within NATO have already signed up for the April wargaming," said Major Olga P., the commissioned Hungarian planning officer, describing the enormous scale of this year's exercise.

Last year's exercise was combined with NATO's Centre of Excellence for Military Medicine (MILMED COECentre of Excellence) and with the Vigorous Warrior (VW) exercise in Hungary. The MMCCMultinational Medical Coordination Centre/EMCEuropean Medical Command contributed its unique expertise in medical wargaming there, too. However, with the participation of only 144 personnel from 23 countries. It provided a first opportunity to test interoperability and draw on lessons learned from the war in Ukraine. For the new edition, in addition to NATO's new "patient tracking tool," the latest changes to NATO's patient flow evacuation requirements were presented and integration into the exercise was discussed. This year, resupply of medical supplies and medications will also be part of the exercise.
