2 Tactical Air Command and Control Group

Surveillance and security of the airspace over the Federal Republic of Germany are essential for safeguarding the sovereignty of the country.

Mission

The operation of its Control and Reporting Center (CRC) is therefore at the core of the mission of 2 Tactical Air Command and Control Group. From the CRC, the unit monitors the airspace over the Federal Republic of Germany. This is where protective and defense measures are coordinated and controlled and any necessary countermeasures are taken.

Moreover, 2 Tactical Air Command and Control Group is responsible for nine radar sites across Germany. The radars pick up and identify aerial targets in German airspace. At the CRC, the collected data of all radars are analyzed and used to compile an air picture. Should it become necessary to take measures against aerial targets that constitute a threat, fighter aircraft or surface-to-air missiles will be employed from the CRC on instruction by superior headquarters.

2 Tactical Air Command and Control Group is the central provider of all course-based, operational and technical training for all non-commissioned officers, sergeants and commissioned officers of the Tactical Air Command and Control Service’s units. There are also course participants from other countries who come to Erndtebrück under NATONorth Atlantic Treaty Organization (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) arrangements to gain basic technical qualifications.
