Operations Control Area 3 monitors the airspace over Germany 24/7.
The Tactical Air Command and Control Service of the German Air Force’s Air Mission Control Service has the mission to ensure the security of the German airspace and safeguard its sovereignty 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. This mission is performed by 3 Tactical Air Command and Control Group in Schönewalde together with 2 Tactical Air Command and Control Group in Erndtebrück. A radar network picks up all flight movements, which are then forwarded to the Control and Reporting Centers for identification. If required, the units carry out tactical command and control of weapon systems such as combat aircraft to employ them in a targeted manner. Thus, 3 Tactical Air Command and Control Group makes an important contribution to ensuring the integrity of the German airspace, even more so against the backdrop of possible terrorist activities. 3 Tactical Air Command and Control Group is divided into two tactical task forces, namely the Fixed Tactical Task Force and the Deployable Tactical Task Force.
