ISIEMSInternational Symposium on Interaction of the Effects of Munitions with Structures
INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ON INTERACTION OF THE EFFECTS OF MUNITIONS WITH STRUCTURES

Important Announcement
ISIEMSInternational Symposium on Interaction of the Effects of Munitions with Structures
ISIEMSInternational Symposium on Interaction of the Effects of Munitions with Structures is an internationally renowned conference that discusses and explores the latest research in to the effects of munitions with structures. Leading experts from all around the world attend and present the latest research in this field. The Event takes place every two years, alternating between Germany and the USA. Branch InfraInfrastruktur IV 4 of the Federal Office of Bundeswehr Infrastructure, Environmental Protection and Services and the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRADefense Threat Reduction Agency) are the official organizers. The official language of this symposium is English.
The main areas of interest are:
- Experimental Validation of numerical codes
- Explosive event simulation
- Protection measures related to blast phenomena
- Structural response to explosion effects
- Combined Damage from blast and fragments (combined Effects)
Highlights
As ISIEMSInternational Symposium on Interaction of the Effects of Munitions with Structures is planned by military organizations, the exchange of NATO unclassified information is authorized during the NATO session. However, all delegates who request attendance at these sessions#en must have security clearance from their relevant NATO country.
SHIELDSuper Heavy Improvised Explosive Loading Demonstration Session
The Super Heavy Improvised Explosive Loading Demonstration (SHIELDSuper Heavy Improvised Explosive Loading Demonstration), which took place in Sweden, August 2019, was an international, combined effort between SWESweden, NORNorway, USA, GERGermany, CHESwitzerland. A special session was held to present the initial findings at a previous ISIEMSInternational Symposium on Interaction of the Effects of Munitions with Structures. It is now intended to arrange a follow up SHIELDSuper Heavy Improvised Explosive Loading Demonstration session in 2022, to present the results.
In Detail
History/Downloads
The first conference took place in Colorado (USA), in 1983, under the name ‘International Symposium on the Interaction of Non-nuclear Munitions with Structures’. A total of 165 scientists and military personnel attended this conference and 66 Papers were presented.
The presentations at this first event included the following topics:
- Ground Shock and Loads
- Impact and Penetration of Concrete and Rock
- Impact and Penetration of Explosives and Shaped Charges
- Material Models
- Material Response
- Soil Liquefaction, soil models
- Structural Analysis and Design
- Structural Response
By 1987, the number of delegates had risen to 227 from 15 different countries. The symposium was renamed in 1997 to, ‘International Symposium on Interaction of the Effects of Munitions with Structures (ISIEMSInternational Symposium on Interaction of the Effects of Munitions with Structures). It was during this year that the number of attendees grew further to 281 delegates from 18 different Countries.
