International Symposium on Interaction of the Effects of Munitions with Structures
ISIEMS is an internationally renowned conference that discusses and explores the latest research in to the effects of munitions with structures. Leading experts from all around the world attend and present the latest research in this field. The Event takes place every two years, alternating between Germany and the USA. Branch Infra IV 4 of the Federal Office of Bundeswehr Infrastructure, Environmental Protection and Services and the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) are the official organizers. The official language of this symposium is English.

As ISIEMS is planned by military organizations, the exchange of NATO unclassified information is authorized during the NATO session. However, all delegates who request attendance at these sessions#en must have security clearance from their relevant NATO country.
Super heavy improvised explosive loading demonstration (SHIELD)
Bundeswehr/Torsten KraatzThe Super Heavy Improvised Explosive Loading Demonstration (SHIELD), which took place in Sweden, August 2019, was an international, combined effort between SWE, NOR, USA, GER, CHE. A special session was held to present the initial findings at a previous ISIEMS. It is now intended to arrange a follow up SHIELD session in 2022, to present the results.
The first conference took place in Colorado (USA), in 1983, under the name ‘International Symposium on the Interaction of Non-nuclear Munitions with Structures’. A total of 165 scientists and military personnel attended this conference and 66 Papers were presented.

By 1987, the number of delegates had risen to 227 from 15 different countries. The symposium was renamed in 1997 to, ‘International Symposium on Interaction of the Effects of Munitions with Structures (ISIEMS). It was during this year that the number of attendees grew further to 281 delegates from 18 different Countries.
