The Air Component Command (ACC) is a major command of the German Air Force and acts as its competence center for planning and conducting air operations.
With the Air Component Command, the Bundeswehr has an operational headquarters at its disposal, which is capable of operationally implementing political decisions on the employment of air forces within the scope of national and collective defense at any time without lead time, thus ensuring immediate response capability at any time in the event of a crisis.
To this end, the ACC combines mission-essential elements such as the Air Force Operations Center with the interministerial National Air Security Center, the Air Intelligence Center and the Air Force Geoinformation Center as well as the National Territorial Missile Defense Operations Center. They perform their functions synergistically around the clock, 365 days a year.
For the planning, command and control of multinational air force operations, the ACC also provides the German Joint Force Air Component Headquarters (JFACJoint Forces Air Component HQHeadquarters DEUEuropean Union) and a Special Operations Air Command (SOAC) for the support of special forces as important operational components of NATONorth Atlantic Treaty Organization and the EUEuropean Union.
The ACC, as a central NATONorth Atlantic Treaty Organization-accredited training facility, provides the decisive part of the training and follow-on training of national and international course participants in the field of planning, command and control of air operations.
As a major command, the ACC exercises command and control over units tasked with supporting the conduct and the command and control capability of air operations, German elements in multinational agencies abroad as well as the Air Force liaison organization related to the other major organizational elements of the Bundeswehr.
