The German Air Force Tactical Training Command/USA (GAFTTCOM USA) was established on 1 July 2016 in order to ensure administrative control of all flying training facilities in the USA and Canada by a superior command and control element.
The establishment had become necessary against the backdrop of the planned disbandment of the German Air Force Flying Training Center in 2019, which meant that a successor was required to provide continuous administrative control within the Air Force in the future. As a result of the decision to close down the facilities at Holloman Air Force Base made by the Federal Ministry of Defense on 12 April 2016, the Command relocated to Sheppard Air Force Base on 1 April 2019.
