Planning: Shaping the future of the Bundeswehr
Shaping the Bundeswehr of the future – that is the mission of the Bundeswehr Office for Defence Planning. The Office conceptualises, plans and manages the further development of the armed forces. To make the Bundeswehr fit for the future and to ensure it will be capable of fighting wars and defending the country and NATONorth Atlantic Treaty Organization territory, the Office identifies capability gaps, formulates objectives and concepts, fosters innovation, and accompanies the implementation of innovations. This planning process – in which the Bundeswehr Office for Defence Planning serves as a strategic think tank and the central agency – involves scientific support as well as close cooperation within NATONorth Atlantic Treaty Organization and the EUEuropean Union.
The Bundeswehr has to prepare for the future today. The Bundeswehr Office for Defence Planning has a pivotal role in this process and is designing warfighting-capable and strategically well-positioned armed forces with state-of-the-art equipment that are ready for future challenges as well.
The tasks of the Bundeswehr Office for Defence Planning range from the definition of objectives, capability management, scientific support and innovation to interoperability and the implementation of plans. This allows for the future-oriented development of Bundeswehr capabilities.
