Directorate IV, “Scientific Support and Interoperability”, of the Bundeswehr Office for Defence Planning offers and promotes an exchange of knowledge supported by ITInformationstechnik-based methods designed to address complex issues. Modelling and Simulation is a method of future and further development and, figuratively speaking, the Directorate’s toolbox. The team uses this toolbox to generate a well-founded, transparent and reliable basis for decision-making. The Directorate’s experts regularly present and illustrate the results of their analyses using demonstrators, models, simulations and architectures.
What does interoperability mean?
An example of knowledge exchange and interoperability is a cordless vest developed in cooperation with the Bundeswehr Research Institute for Materials, Fuels and Lubricants
Bundeswehr
Interoperability means both the cooperation within the Bundeswehr and the cooperation with allied partners and nations. Enhancing these forms of cooperation is one of the Directorate’s tasks. To this end, it further develops Bundeswehr and NATONorth Atlantic Treaty Organization policy, and administers all Bundeswehr standardisation agreements with NATONorth Atlantic Treaty Organization. As guardian of the Bundeswehr’s binding technical vocabulary and lexicon, it also coordinates all tasks relating to terminology work. The Directorate shares the results of its work with all members of the Bundeswehr by providing databases.
