Mission

The Federal Academy for Security Policy (BAKSBundesakademie für Sicherheitspolitik) is the Federal Government’s central and inter-ministerial institution for further training in security policy. Its task is to promote a comprehensive understanding of national and international security policy, and Germany’s long-term security policy goals. The work of the BAKSBundesakademie für Sicherheitspolitik is characterised by an interdisciplinary approach and its practical orientation. The Academy’s portfolio is tailored to audiences from the world of politics, the public sector, the scientific community, the private sector and civil society, and it also addresses the general public.

The BAKSBundesakademie für Sicherheitspolitik is organisationally subordinate to the Federal Ministry of Defence, but is under the technical supervision of the Federal Security Council. At the BAKSBundesakademie für Sicherheitspolitik, an inter-ministerial team from seven Federal Ministries and the German Chancellery works together under one roof.

The BAKSBundesakademie für Sicherheitspolitik holds more than 70 events every year. Courses e.g. include the Core Course on Security Policy, the Security Policy Course for Senior Officials, and the Digitalisation and Security Policy Workshop, and are open to selected specialist and senior personnel. The BAKSBundesakademie für Sicherheitspolitik organises a broad range of expert meetings and conferences giving participants an opportunity to share their knowledge and experience at a national and international level, e.g. the German Forum on Security Policy, and the annual Get Together for young executive personnel from different government departments. By providing information opportunities and discussion formats such as a student conference, citizen dialogue events, and the Security Policy Working Paper series, the BAKSBundesakademie für Sicherheitspolitik not only reaches out to social multipliers, but also directly to the general public.
