Tasks of WTS Koblenz

The Scientific Collection of Defense Engineering Specimens (Wehrtechnische Studiensammlung - WTS) has 7,200 square meters of exhibition space and is thus one of the largest technical collections in the Federal Republic of Germany. It was founded in 1962, has been based in Koblenz near BAAINBw’s headquarters since 1982 and is part of BAAINBw.

The collection’s main task is to provide training and further training to personnel specializing in the field of defense technology. WTS Koblenz also supplies demonstration material for soldiers who are preparing for operations abroad. Documenting the technical progress of defense materiel is also part of its tasks. The exhibits and the collection of literature are open to members of the Bundeswehr and the public.  

WTS also supports the Bundeswehr’s recruitment efforts and is an active member of the Bundeswehr association of museums and collections.

The Scientific Collection of Defense Engineering Specimens (WTS) in Koblenz will be closed for visitors until further notice.

Exhibits may be exchanged for various reasons!

Technical library
In addition, the collection maintains a vast specialist library on military technology and military history, including technical manuals, equipment descriptions, handbooks and photos.

Opening hours
WTS Koblenz is open all year round, daily between 9:30 am and 16:30 (closed on Shrove Monday and between 24 December and 1 January)  

Entry fee
3 Euros (free for Bundeswehr employees with a Bundeswehr identification card.)

How to get to WTS

Join A 61 and exit at ”Koblenzer Kreuz“. Take A 48 towards Koblenz. Take B9 towards Koblenz at junction  ”Koblenz Nord“. Go in the direction of Mayen/Cochem before the ”Europabrücke“ (the ”Wehrtechnische Studiensammlung” is signposted). Go right when you reach Bundesstraße B416 and change lanes to turn left. Turn left onto WTS’s premises.

Coming from A 3, exit at junction ”Dernbacher Dreieck“ and join A 48 towards Trier, exit at junction ”Koblenz Nord”. Then follow the directions above.

Take bus No.5 or 15 from Koblenz main railway station (the central bus station is opposite the railway station). Alight at “Langemarckplatz”.
