Tasks of WTSWehrtechnische Studiensammlung Koblenz

The Scientific Collection of Defense Engineering Specimens (Wehrtechnische Studiensammlung - WTSWehrtechnische Studiensammlung) is one of the largest technical collections in the Federal Republic of Germany. It was founded in 1962, has been based in Koblenz near BAAINBwBundesamt für Ausrüstung, Informationstechnik und Nutzung der Bundeswehr’s headquarters since 1982 and is part of BAAINBwBundesamt für Ausrüstung, Informationstechnik und Nutzung der Bundeswehr.

WTSWehrtechnische Studiensammlung is, at its core, BAAINBwBundesamt für Ausrüstung, Informationstechnik und Nutzung der Bundeswehr’s company archive. It documents the technical progress of defense materiel and provides expertise for the development of materiel. In addition, it provides basic and advanced training to personnel specializing in the field of defense technology and to soldiers preparing for operations abroad, for example.
WTSWehrtechnische Studiensammlung also runs an exhibition which is open to the public and which showcases part of the collection: approximately 2,500 exhibits on 7,200 m² of exhibition space.

WTSWehrtechnische Studiensammlung also supports the Bundeswehr#de’s recruitment efforts and is an active member of the Bundeswehr Association of Museums and Collections.

Specialist library and document collection

WTSWehrtechnische Studiensammlung maintains a vast specialist library on military technology and military history, including service publications, equipment descriptions, manuals and photos.

The Scientific Collection of Defense Engineering Specimens (WTSWehrtechnische Studiensammlung) in Koblenz can be visited daily from 09:30 to 16:30 all year round (except on Shrove Monday, Good Friday, Christmas, New Year's Eve, New Year's Day and, if necessary, on other closing days after appropriate announcement).

Entry fee

  • 3 euros
  • Admission is free for Bundeswehr employees with a Bundeswehr identification card.
  • Children under the age of 10 are admitted free of charge.

Further information

  • A limited number of parking spots is available in the car park in front of the exhibition building.
  • Identity cards are mandatory! Visitors have to deposit their ID card (identity card, passport) with the guard to receive a visitor's pass. Children under the age of 16 accompanied by a person with a valid ID card are not required to provide identification.
  • Bundeswehr employees may present their valid Bundeswehr identification card instead.
  • Only the ground floor and the exhibition hall are wheelchair-accessible.

How to get to WTSWehrtechnische Studiensammlung

Join A 61 and exit at ”Koblenzer Kreuz“. Take A 48 towards Koblenz. Take B9 towards Koblenz at junction  ”Koblenz Nord“. Go in the direction of Mayen/Cochem before the ”Europabrücke“ (the ”Wehrtechnische Studiensammlung” is signposted). Go right when you reach Bundesstraße B416 and change lanes to turn left. Turn left onto WTSWehrtechnische Studiensammlung’s premises.

Coming from A 3, exit at junction ”Dernbacher Dreieck“ and join A 48 towards Trier, exit at junction ”Koblenz Nord”. Then follow the directions above.

Take bus No.5 or 15 from Koblenz main railway station (the central bus station is opposite the railway station). Alight at “Langemarckplatz”.
